What Could Be Sweeter?
So we've been reading about Dessert Decadence on, like...every major blogging site (Sun. July 27th, 5-8pm); however FWJ reader KT has discovered a means of getting there for $40!
You Don't Have to Like Paintings to Enjoy Art
Thx to FWJ reader Reg for digging up SiteLA's skater ramp reveal and exhibition. Starting tomorrow (Fri. July 25th at 8pm), Jesse Rodato, one of the residents at this Quiksilver-sponsored art gallery, will be hosting a "new skatepark for inner city kids" concept.
Aside from the DJ, there will be a skate ramp, along with pieces that "combine street art, performance, and bruised knees."
At 2522 Sunset Blvd.

Fight the American Way
Once a year, American Apparel gathers all the clothes in its factory to create a giant pile of fun Downtown for you to dig through (on 7th and Alameda). Last year 4,000 people showed up to fight over almost 200,000 garments - some priced as low as $1!
On Sun. July 27 (2pm-midnight), you can be one of those people. For $5. Early birds can get in for $12, so figure out if the wait is worth it.
Other fun included? Try a slip n slide, snow cones, a moon bounce, a dunk tank, and DJs.
Cherry Up
Tomorrow (Fri. July 25), Sprinkles is releasing yet another to die for cupcake into the world: Summer Cherry. Made with pureed cherries in the cake and frosting, this is one you won't want to miss. Available through Aug. 3rd.

"Hanging" with Lucent Dossier
Tonight, Bored-LA reminds us that my favorite downtown restaurant (the Edison) is hosting Lucent Dossier, "a cabaret-style evening reminiscent of 1920s Paris and Berlin."
Their Vaudeville Cirque performance art troupe performs at 9pm, hanging from the ceilings while you dine, and the cover charge is $20 at the door. Get there early to secure entry and good seating, and don't forget to order the Elvis peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

Who's Your Garth TriniDaddy?
Thanks to Fusicology, at least one FWJ reader will be very happy.
West Hollywood's The Standard will be celebrating this LUSH Tuesday (July 22nd) with none other than Garth Trinidad (discovered acts like Jill Scott and Gnarls Barkley) at the Purple Lounge. With FREE mojitos from 10-11pm, this is sure to be one awesome, cover-free night.

I See London, I See France
Okay, so not to advertise $30 underwear or anything, but...
You have to check out Pull In, a South of France import now on 8012 Melrose Ave.
In my opinion, this could be the new Victoria's Secret. They have my all time favorite cut (men's style with thick bands), and their men's collection looks pretty sweet, too.
Guys, be prepared to pull out your wallets. These will make great gifts for the ladies.
Wish a Bite
To celebrate its 30th year of operations, Morton's Steakhouse is donating $5 from every $19.78 prime sirloin burger purchase to Make a Wish Foundation.

"Viddy Well, Little Brother"
Sat. July 19th.
I have been waiting to post the Hollywood Forever Cemetery screenings until I found one I absolutely loved, and here it is (drum roll please): A Clockwork Orange!
Gates upon at 7:30pm at 6000 Santa Monica Blvd, though I would recommend arriving MUCH earlier if you are planning on parking there for $5. Street parking is extremely difficult, and I missed a screening once before due to parking issues.

Live Nation for $10!
The same FWJ reader "M" who took 20 minutes to order dinner, has an incredible recommendation for us:
"In light of the escalating transportation costs [Live Nation] fans are experiencing during the summer, this Friday only, over 40 shows at eleven of Los Angeles and San Diego favorite concert venues will have $10 tickets available! Participating artists include Rod Stewart, Maroon 5 and Counting Crows, Santana, ZZ Top & Brooks and Dunn, Alejandro Fernandez, Steel Pulse, and many, many more! Tickets will be available while supplies last on Friday, July 18 from 10am to midnight. Get out and support live music in Los Angeles and San Diego."
Click here to buy your tickets!
"They Think I'm the Poo Monster"
When you get the chance, please go out and support the Australian mocumentary Kenny (about a guy who delivers porta-potties). It was a refreshingly great comedy, and it premieres this weekend in Santa Monica and Pasadena at the Laemmle 4-Plex and One Colorado respectively.
My screening was FREE, but I definitely would have paid to see it. The Giant who saw it with me couldn't stop laughing, but admitted disappointment upon discovering that Kenny is not a real person. Seriously. He was near tears.
Buy tickets now during its limited release - you won't regret it.
Angelini Osteria
I don't usually blog about food, but today I couldn't help it. Last night I ate at Angelini Osteria, and the food was out of this world. Well, at least...out of this country. Born and bred in Italy, chef Gino Angelini is a talented master of his craft, who has even cooked for the Pope.
Our waiter was the nicest guy, who waited patiently as my friend M took about twenty minutes to order. He simply grinned, flaunting his authentic Italian accent, "Take-a your time."
I went with the $15 pumpkin tortelli, which was just about the best dish I have had in a year. A perfect romantic dining spot, boys, you now have the next best place to take your girlfriend (or date) - complete FWJ approved.
Check out the menu here.
Thomas Ian, Sing Me a Song
If you missed Lucy Lawless sing at City Walk, Sat. July 19th at 7:30pm is your chance to catch Thomas Ian Nicholas (American Pie) for FREE. Lucy wasn't bad at all, and I don't expect Thomas to be too bad either.

It's Getting Hot In Here...
...But no need to take off your clothes.
In honor of ice cream month, here is a list of LA's finest ice cream shops (in no particular order):
1824 W Main St
in Alhambra
Highlights of this overlooked, cash only location include: lychee flavor, taro flavor, and old-fashioned root beer floats.
For a full list of flavors, click here.
2. MASHTI MALONE'S
1525 N. La Brea Ave.
in HollywoodDon't be fooled by its strip-mall location. This Iranian ice cream parlor is out of this world. Try Persian flavors (now available at Whole Foods) such as lavender, or their $2 ice cream sandwich - a scoop of ice cream nestled between two thin wafers, rolled in fresh pistachios.
Every year they invent one new flavor, though they indicate that rosewater ice cream in Iran is as common a flavor as vanilla is here.
3. HELADOS POPS
1010 N Vermont Ave.
in Hollywood
A Central American delight, this shop offers unique flavors such as fresa sapote, mamey banana, and luquma - all $1.50 per scoop.
4. PAZZO GELATO
3827 W Sunset Blvd
in Silver Lake
If you are craving gelato, this is the place for you. With free WiFi and flavors like mango cayenne and chocolate martini, you can't go wrong. The latter is a high-grade Venezuelan chocolate infused with Grey Goose vodka.
Their coffee is also supposed to be unbelievable.
5. SCOOPS
5. SCOOPS
712 N. Heliotrope Dr.
in Koreatown
in Koreatown
Closed on Sundays, this ice cream shop is famous for its brown bread flavor, made with Grape Nuts breakfast cereal and caramel. Other popular flavors include avocado with banana, brioche french toast, and raisin and gorgonzola cheese.
Those brave souls might venture to try the "painfully sweet" chocolate wasabi.
Something else to note about this parlor is its DVD exchange program. Bring a movie and take another one home!
