It's Getting Hot In Here...

...But no need to take off your clothes.
In honor of ice cream month, here is a list of LA's finest ice cream shops (in no particular order):

1.  FOSSELMAN'S
1824 W Main St
in Alhambra

Highlights of this overlooked, cash only location include: lychee flavor, taro flavor, and old-fashioned root beer floats.

For a full list of flavors, click here.

2.  MASHTI MALONE'S
1525 N. La Brea Ave.
in Hollywood

Don't be fooled by its strip-mall location.  This Iranian ice cream parlor is out of this world.  Try Persian flavors (now available at Whole Foods) such as lavender, or their $2 ice cream sandwich - a scoop of ice cream nestled between two thin wafers, rolled in fresh pistachios.

Every year they invent one new flavor, though they indicate that rosewater ice cream in Iran is as common a flavor as vanilla is here.

3.  HELADOS POPS
1010 N Vermont Ave.
in Hollywood

A Central American delight, this shop offers unique flavors such as fresa sapote, mamey banana, and luquma - all $1.50 per scoop.

4. PAZZO GELATO
3827 W Sunset Blvd
in Silver Lake

If you are craving gelato, this is the place for you.  With free WiFi and flavors like mango cayenne and chocolate martini, you can't go wrong.  The latter is a high-grade Venezuelan chocolate infused with Grey Goose vodka.

Their coffee is also supposed to be unbelievable.

5. SCOOPS
712 N. Heliotrope Dr.
in Koreatown

Closed on Sundays, this ice cream shop is famous for its brown bread flavor, made with Grape Nuts breakfast cereal and caramel.  Other popular flavors include avocado with banana, brioche french toast, and raisin and gorgonzola cheese.

Those brave souls might venture to try the "painfully sweet" chocolate wasabi.

Something else to note about this parlor is its DVD exchange program.  Bring a movie and take another one home!
