Jaydi's Weekend Jems

Sat. Aug. 29th

2:30-4:30pm, Open Improv Workshop
6560 Hollywood Blvd., 2nd fl.
$25

If you were ever considering taking classes here, now is the time to do it.  Take this discounted 2 hr. intro class, and a $25 credit will be applied if you decide to sign up.

5-10pm, Brothers & Sisters Art Show
5108 Lankershim Blvd.
North Hollywood

Presumably not as cool as the artwork on my show, but pretty sweet nonetheless.  Support FWJ friends Elysse and Cole as their coworkers (cast & crew) present personal art pieces during this TV show's opening reception.

8pm, Silent Sleepover
611 N. Fairfax Ave.
$12

How many times can you say, "Bring a sleeping bag" to a movie theatre?  At least once, because tonight, the Silent Movie Theatre will be screening 6 features (ranging from Little Darlings to Meatballs 2) in a row - all of which feature a summer camp theme.  If you're able to stay awake, eggs and other breakfast treats await in the am.  DJing and s'mores on the patio!

Convinced?  Click here to buy tix now.

Sun. Aug. 30th

Tim Robbins hosts the afternoon gala for The Trial of the Catonsville 9, which runs this weekend only at The Actors' Gang.

All Weekend

2861 Los Feliz Blvd.

Yes, I watch G4.  I know it may not seem so from my photos, but I'm a huge fan of this Japanese game show.  If you are, too, and you've ever thought, "I normally wouldn't be into breaking my collarbone, but since it's on national TV..." this is the competition for you.

Besides, if you make the final 10, you win a FREE trip to Japan!

Trip to Vegas

If you can road trip before Sept. 7th and can book before Monday, check out the ridiculously reduced prices at these hotels through Expedia.

All bloggers seem to agree that this is the most happening event on a quiet Sunday in LA.  Celebrate one of my favorite designer's (belated) 67th birthday with her in her store.  Sweet treats await, and I don't just mean shoes!

Hebrew Idol

Wed. May 20th, 8pm
M Bar
1235 Vine St.
$10 food and drink minimum
21+

For those not watching the Idol finale tomorrow, stop reading now and go see a therapist for dangerously bad taste in television.
Or, if you're not into shrinks, check out HEEB Magazine's "Storytelling" event.  You won't be able to get away from Idol completely, though, because 2009 semifinalist Jackie Tohn will be joining the cast.

No Guarantees This Christmas

This holiday season, send your friends an e-card, courtesy of Santa's Lawyers.  Please note the "disclaimer," written by my friend Anonymous Lawyer:

"This happy holidays greeting should not be interpreted as a guarantee that your holidays will be happy. Santa assumes no liability for the side effects of happy holidays, which may include weight gain, gastric reflux, sudden drowsiness, family discord, or pine needles all over your living room floor.

By asking for presents from Santa, individuals consent to the use of their names and likenesses for promotional purposes. All wish lists submitted to Santa become the property of Claus Enterprises, Ltd. and will not be returned. Santa reserves the right to substitute items on your wish list for goods of an equal or greater value.

Santa's presents are manufactured in a facility that may process peanuts.

Lawyers who worked on credit default swaps are "Naughty" by definition, so long as Santa's 401-K is down 30 percent or more from its historic high.

Do not ask Santa for your holiday bonus. It's not coming. Neither is next year's.

For the home delivery of presents, Santa requires a chimney opening of at least 18 inches, freshly baked cookies and milk. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in damage to your toys. Please see Santa Claus Rider, Part C, for further details as to Santa's refreshment requirements, including the temperature at which Santa's milk will be deemed acceptable. Any material breaches of this rider may result in the postponement of the holiday season until March.

Santa is not responsible for delays in the delivery of presents caused by the Transportation Security Administration's Do-Not-Fly List.

Undecided? Let David Help You.

From David Sedaris (on the election), courtesy of Frankintosh:

"To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. ‘Can I interest you in the chicken?’ she asks. ‘Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it?’ To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked."

No Men on Stage? Now That's Funny!

What ever happened to women in comedy?  They're at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater!

Come see Amy Poehler (<-- Baby Mama star) and Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty) perform some improv tomorrow night (Thurs. June 19th) at 9:30pm.  Tickets are currently sold out, but you can still snag some if you get there early and wait in line.  Oh, and did I mention they are only $5?

A little pricier is 24's very own Mary Lynn Rajskub on June 21st.  Don't worry, though, because your $8 will be well spent.  She is SINGING.  That's right.  Rajskub, along with a few others, will be singing one song a piece.  And they will actually try to be good.  Come on, folks.  Definitely worth the 8 bucks.

Tickets are still available.  Click here.

Interested in comedy from writer/director Judd Apatow (creator of 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad, Knocked Up and more!)?  How about a FREE improv show, courtesy of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater - starring Apatow himself?

I thought so.
